A Webtoon About a Dad Who Used to Be a Black-Ops Agent Just Became a Global Netflix Show. It’s Not Even a Standalone Story.

“Manager Kim,” a webtoon about a mild-mannered office worker who turns out to be a former special agent, just became “Agent Kim Reactivated” — and it dropped globally on Netflix on June 26, 2026, the same day it premiered on Korean broadcaster SBS, according to Anime News Network (Wonhee Cho, June 25, 2026). If you’re catching up late, you didn’t miss much: this is days old.

The pitch is simple and the kind of thing that’s hard to scroll past: Kim looks like an ordinary, slightly tired office manager, until his daughter goes missing — and then he reveals the lethal skillset he’s been hiding the entire time, per Anime News Network. So Ji-sub plays him, opposite a supporting cast that includes Choi Dae-hoon, Yoon Kyung-ho, Joo Sang-wook, Son Na-eun, and Kim Sung-kyu. It’s eight episodes. The trailer, released June 15, leans hard into fight choreography and the whiplash of Kim’s transformation from desk job to one-man wrecking crew.

Here’s the detail that makes this more than just another webtoon-to-screen flip: “Manager Kim” isn’t operating alone. Anime News Network reports it’s set in the same shared universe as “Lookism,” “Viral Hit,” and “My Life as a Loser” — all titles with their own dedicated fandoms, and in Viral Hit’s case, its own separate live-action adaptation already on Netflix this same month. That’s a webtoon publisher building a cinematic universe the way Marvel built one out of comics, just compressed into a few years instead of a few decades.

The original webtoon ran from 2021 to 2025, per Anime News Network, which means the source material wrapped its story before the cameras even started rolling on the adaptation — there’s no mid-series rush to catch up to unfinished source content, the trap a lot of webtoon adaptations fall into. If you want to read it before or after watching, the original is available in English on WEBTOON.
