Netflix’s Korean original drama “참교육,” based on the popular Naver Webtoon of the same name, posted one of the platform’s strongest openings for a 2026 Korean title: the series climbed to No. 2 on TV-OTT topicality rankings in its debut week with a score of 54,881, ranked No. 1 among non-English-language titles and No. 3 overall on Netflix’s global viewership charts in its first week, and by day seven had reached No. 1 on FlixPatrol’s Netflix TV show rankings across 45 countries.

The drama stars Kim Moo-yeol in the lead role of Na Hwa-jin, adapting a webtoon that built a substantial reader base on its original platform before the Netflix deal — a familiar pipeline in Korean content production, where a proven webtoon IP significantly de-risks a streaming adaptation by arriving with a built-in fanbase already emotionally invested in the story and characters before a single frame airs.

The 45-country FlixPatrol No. 1 result is a particularly strong marker of global crossover success, since FlixPatrol’s country-by-country top-10 rankings are widely used within the streaming industry as a proxy for genuine international breakout performance, as opposed to strong performance concentrated in Korea and immediately adjacent markets. Netflix has increasingly prioritized this kind of broad-geography breakout when evaluating the success of its Korean original investments.

The show’s rapid rise also reinforces Netflix’s continued strategic bet on Korean webtoon adaptations as a content pipeline, following a string of prior successes that established Korean IP-based dramas as some of the platform’s most reliable performers outside its English-language originals slate.

Netflix has not disclosed detailed viewership hour figures for “참교육” beyond the ranking data, but the combination of chart position, country breadth, and topicality score has made it one of the most closely watched Korean original launches of Netflix’s 2026 slate so far.
