Rosé’s first solo single in 16 months
BLACKPINK’s Rosé released her new solo single “new trick” on streaming platforms on September 18, 2026, at 8 a.m. Korean time (7 p.m. on September 17 in the U.S. East). Her agency THEBLACKLABEL announced the release on September 10. It is her first new solo song in about a year and four months, following “Messy,” her track for the soundtrack of the film “F1” in May 2025.
What makes this release different from a standard comeback is how tightly it is tied to Apple’s product schedule. The “new trick” music video was made under Apple’s “Shot on iPhone” campaign and was filmed entirely on the iPhone 18 Pro. Right after Apple unveiled the phone, Rosé and Apple put out a joint teaser, so the tech company’s launch calendar and the singer’s release calendar ran as one.
“Shot on iPhone” is Apple’s long-running campaign that shows off the phone’s camera through photos and videos made on the device. In this case, Rosé’s song and its official video are the campaign’s main content. This is not a case of a K-pop track being licensed for a phone commercial. The single and the phone share one timeline.
A joint campaign that was clear from the first teaser
Rosé and Apple posted a teaser of about 15 seconds on their official channels on September 9. In it, Rosé holds a lollipop wrapped in packaging printed with “new trick” and “shot on iPhone 18 Pro.” Putting both the song title and the phone model on a single prop made the nature of the project obvious: a music preview and a tech collaboration at the same time.
The audio snippet layers distorted electric guitar under stacked vocals. The lyrics go “Lovesick, I’ll pick my heart off the floor,” about pulling yourself together after heartbreak, and then “New trick, watch this, watch this,” a line that turns the mood confident.
The teaser did two jobs at once. It gave listeners the song’s mood and hook, and it made a point of noting that every frame was captured on the iPhone 18 Pro. For music fans it was a comeback preview; for people who follow Apple, it was a demonstration of the new camera. Releasing the same clip through both channels reinforced that double role.

A brand video directed by Dave Meyers
Dave Meyers directed the video. He has made music videos for Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar and Harry Styles, and he also directed BLACKPINK’s “JUMP.” He is a familiar collaborator for Rosé from her group work, and this project puts his style in front of a global audience again.
In this collaboration the iPhone 18 Pro is not a product briefly shown on screen. It was the camera that shot the whole video, and the joint teaser that followed Apple’s product announcement was the first channel for the song. Even the lollipop in the teaser carried the product name and the campaign phrase. The shoot, the release timing and the teaser promotion are all part of one brand partnership.
The result works as a music video and as a demonstration of mobile filmmaking at the same time. Rosé’s reach brings a pop culture audience to a hardware launch, and Apple’s platform gives a solo single an unusually large stage. Each side borrows the other’s strength.
Building on ‘APT.’
Rosé debuted with BLACKPINK in 2016. In 2024 she renewed her contract with YG Entertainment for group activities, while her individual work moved to THEBLACKLABEL. She has been running group projects and a solo career side by side since then.
Her first full album, “rosie,” came out in December 2024. Its lead collaboration with Bruno Mars, “APT.,” reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and stayed on the chart for 45 weeks, the longest run by any K-pop artist. “new trick” is the next chapter in that solo run, arriving 16 months after “Messy.”
Rosé is the last BLACKPINK member to release solo music in 2026, after Jennie, Lisa and Jisoo. Beyond closing that cycle, the release shows that a K-pop single can be the main content of a global tech company’s product launch and advertising campaign. The co-branded teaser, timed to Apple’s product reveal, is the clearest sign of how the two were joined.
