K-Drama Filming Locations to Walk: The Hallyu Olle Trail Has Landed

A Production Company and Tourism Authority Join Forces

On June 18, the Korea Tourism Organization signed a partnership with Studio Dragon. The goal: turn the global K-content fever into actual inbound travel. The pairing itself—a public tourism agency with a drama production house—sums up the agreement’s character.

The Hallyu Olle Trail: Scripted Pilgrimage

The headline initiative is the “Hallyu Olle Trail”—stringing together K-drama filming sites across the country into travel circuits, with symbolic installations and experience zones at major locations. Where Jeju’s Olle Trail etches narrative onto geography, the Hallyu Olle Trail connects places already carrying story. It codifies what fans do organically: visiting “that street from Crash Landing on You” or “that seawall from Goblin” into official itineraries.

The Structural Shift: Planning Before Filming

The deeper change lies elsewhere. Both parties agreed to weave tourism elements from the pre-production phase onward. Until now, location tourism was reactive: a drama hits, crowds arrive, local governments scramble with signage, popularity fades, sites fall into disrepair. Planning tourism into production design lets municipalities pre-engineer access and infrastructure.

The K-Drama Experience Hall

By H2 2026, Seoul’s Cheonggyecheon tourism hub (HiKR Ground) will host a “K-Drama Experience Hall” celebrating Studio Dragon’s 10th anniversary—a sensory immersion into its blockbusters. It serves as a gateway: build interest in Seoul, then dispatch visitors to regions.

Promise and Pitfall

For regions, it’s an opportunity to convert content-driven curiosity into stays and spending. Yet location tourism has a short shelf life. Once a show’s popularity dips, visitors vanish. A few installations can’t drive repeats—the region’s food, lodging, and natural landscape must back them. Whether the Hallyu Olle Trail becomes drama-set pilgrimage or an entry ramp to genuine regional travel depends on what happens beyond the content.
