Dr.G Korean skincare products with TikTok Shop concept

Dr.G officially launches on US TikTok Shop

Dr.G, the Korean skincare brand acquired by L’Oréal, officially launched on the US TikTok Shop on October 5. This dynamic storefront allows American consumers to discover products through short-form videos and creator content, making purchases directly within the app. By adding TikTok Shop to its existing online retail network in the US, Dr.G is widening its reach with local beauty enthusiasts.

This launch is much more than just listing products on another digital storefront. L’Oréal is rolling out a US marketing campaign spanning social media content, creator collaborations, out-of-home advertising, and influencer partnerships, with launch events in New York and Los Angeles. The strategy leans heavily into TikTok’s unique ecosystem, using video to break down K-beauty ingredients and routines while instantly turning viewer curiosity into seamless purchases.

Leading with ingredients: PDRN, centella asiatica, and black snail

In the US market, Dr.G is heavily emphasizing the signature Korean skincare approach of carefully matching specific skin concerns with targeted ingredients. Their lineup features heavy hitters frequently discussed in today’s K-beauty spaces, such as PDRN, Centella Asiatica (cica), and black snail mucin. Centella Asiatica is a botanical staple beloved for soothing sensitized skin, while black snail mucin provides intense hydration derived from snail secretion filtrate.

PDRN is making waves in skincare for its reputation in boosting skin recovery and elasticity. Of course, simply bottling a trendy ingredient doesn’t guarantee universal results for every skin type. What Dr.G is truly offering American consumers is a comprehensive package: buzzy ingredients backed by the brand’s origins with a founding dermatologist, formulas meticulously designed for sensitive skin, and a core identity rooted in rigorous clinical testing.

The 2024 acquisition fuels US retail expansion

In December 2024, L’Oréal announced its acquisition of Gowoonsesang Cosmetics, the parent company of Dr.G. Founded in 2003 by dermatologist Dr. Ahn Gun-young, the brand was integrated into L’Oréal’s Consumer Products Division following the buyout. At the time, L’Oréal outlined a clear vision to meet the rising global demand for scientifically backed, accessibly priced K-beauty, while accelerating Dr.G’s footprint outside of South Korea.

This TikTok Shop launch is an example of a global beauty company applying its international distribution and marketing reach to a newly acquired Korean brand. Dr.G brings its strong domestic reputation and ingredient-focused formulations to the table, while L’Oréal provides the scale and platform needed to capture American consumers. It also reflects a broader shift in the K-beauty space, as major beauty companies move beyond simply acquiring popular brands and build out their own local retail and digital sales channels.

The broader industry picture: $11.1 billion in exports

Dr.G’s expansion in the US comes as South Korean cosmetic exports hit a historic high. According to preliminary figures released by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety on October 2, cosmetics exports from the first to the third quarter of 2026 hit $11.1 billion, a massive 31.1% jump compared to the same period last year. This marks the highest-ever cumulative total for a third quarter, already sitting comfortably close to the entire 2025 annual export figure of $11.4 billion.

During this nine-month stretch, the US cemented its position as the top destination for Korean cosmetics, pulling in $2.35 billion, a 40.6% increase year-over-year. As the American market claims a larger slice of the total export pie, the race among brands to lock down local distribution channels is only getting fiercer. Dr.G’s move onto TikTok Shop shows how a global company can plug a K-beauty brand’s ingredient story directly into America’s content-commerce ecosystem. The real test moving forward will be whether this initial wave of online buzz can translate beyond one-off impulse buys into reliable repeat purchases and lasting brand loyalty.
