‘Skincaring’ Sunscreens Lead Korea’s 2026 Sun-Care Trend as Formulas Get Lighter

Korea’s sun-care category is undergoing a formulation shift in 2026 that the industry has dubbed “skincaring” (스킨케어링) — sunscreens engineered to feel and perform like a lightweight hydrating serum rather than a traditional, heavier sun-protection product, reflecting broader Korean skincare trends that prioritize barrier support and comfortable wear alongside core UV protection function.

New entries in the category illustrate the trend clearly: Dioplus has launched both a “UV Defense PDRN Sunscreen” and a “Blue Feather Tone-Up Sunscreen” through Olive Young’s online platform, both marketed around combining sun protection with skin-barrier care ingredients — PDRN (polydeoxyribonucleotide), a regenerative ingredient borrowed from Korean dermocosmetic and in-clinic skincare treatments, has become an increasingly common addition to mainstream sunscreen formulations this year.

The skincaring trend represents a shift away from the thicker, more overtly protective-feeling sunscreen formulas that once defined the category, driven by consumer demand for daily-wearable sun protection that doesn’t compete with the rest of a multi-step skincare or makeup routine — a priority that dovetails with the broader “skip care” trend reshaping Korean makeup and skincare product design simultaneously this year.

Brand-reputation rankings for the sunscreen category published in early 2026 placed AHC in the top position, followed by Dr.G and HERA, reflecting continued strong competition among both dermocosmetic-positioned brands and more traditional cosmetics houses for leadership in a category that has become increasingly central to Korean skincare routines as public awareness of UV-related skin aging has grown.

Industry watchers expect the lightweight, serum-like sunscreen format to remain a dominant direction for Korean sun-care product development through the rest of 2026, as brands continue racing to differentiate within an increasingly crowded but consistently growing category.
